Chemotherapeutic drug susually act on rapidly dividing cells, inhibit the synthesis and replication of cell DNA, the form of microtubules, or the activity of metabolism enzymes. Clinical results have showed that only about 30% of patients can be benefited from a chemotherapy regimen. Different individuals carry different genes correlated with chemotherapeutic drug responsiveness., therefore the patients' sensitivity and tolerance to specific drugs, and reactions to the toxicity of the drug itself are different.
Recently, lots of studies have showed that every chemotherapeutic drug has related targets which can be used for assessing the drug effect. Through the detection of the related gene status, the patient's drug sensitivity/ resistance can be evaluated. The detection results can be used to predict the chemotherapy effect and guide the drug selection.
